MIL-HDBK-33lF
Defense Logistics Agency (DLA): Within the DLA, primary repositories operate under a decentralized concept. The decentralized repository functions are located throughout the various centers. As appropriate, each repository maintains specific categories of data. The assignments are related to the Federal Supply Class (FSC) of the products depicted by the data. DoD Manual 4100.39-M, Chapter 1, Volume 1, identifies the assignments.
U. S. Coast Guard: Within the Coast Guard, primary repositories operate under a decentralized concept. The decentralized repositories functions are located at the Engineering Logistics Center (ELC) and Aircraft Repair and Supply Center (ARSC). Each center maintains a repository of a specific category of data applicable to the Coast Guard.
4.2 Special repositories.
4.2.l DOE nuclear data repository. Nuclear data is controlled within the Department of Energy (DOE). DOE engineering data are subject to limited rights use and may not be used for acquisition of materiel, for information purposes external of the DOD, or for contractor operational or manufacturing processes, unless specific authorization has been granted by the DOE. Official record copies of nuclear engineering data are stored within a primary repository that operates under a centralized concept. The centralized repository function is located within the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Combat Support Nuclear Stockpile Logistics Branch Library (CSNLCL), Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico 87117-5669.
4.2.2 DoD nuclear data repositories. Within the DoD, nuclear data is controlled and stored within two special repositories that operate under a centralized concept; specifically, the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Directorate (NWD), at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico and the Navy at the United States Naval Inventory Control Point, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. As appropriate, each repository is assigned service unique types of nuclear data.
4.2.3 Cryptologic data repository. Within the Air Force, service unique cryptological data are controlled and stored in a repository that operates under a centralized concept. The centralized repository function is located within the Air Force Security Command, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.
4.2.4 Atomic energy detection system data repository. Within the Air Force, service unique atomic energy detection system data are controlled by a USAF Field Operating Agency (AFTAC/LSC, is located at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida). The data are stored in a repository that operates under a centralized concept.
4.3 Military Engineering Data Asset Locator System (MEDALS). MEDALS is the DoD central engineering data indexing authority and is associated with the primary Service repositories using the Joint Engineering Data Management Information and Control Systems (JEDMICS) and a variety of
Product Data Management (PDM) systems for file storage. The MEDALS program is accessed through the World Wide Web via a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) at https://www.dlis.dla.mil/med/. Engineering data is indexed in the MEDALS database per each Service's control procedures utilizing combinations of Document Numbers, Part Numbers, NSN/NIINs, and Titles. MEDALS index data provides the
repository location of the document listed, point of contact, and associated data.
